Of China’s many famed tea producing regions, perhaps none are as renowned as the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province. Here, centuries-old tea trees grow wild, perched on steep, misty cliffs, and produce some of the finest tea in the entire country.
Because of the region’s unique biodiversity and natural beauty, many areas in Wuyishan are protected by the government, meaning the use of chemicals and pesticides is strictly prohibited. As a result, Wuyi gardens are in one of the few chemical-free agricultural zones in China.
Gachi’s partner growers in the Wuyishan region are a third-generation tea family that specializes in award-winning Wuyi rock oolongs as well as artisan black and white teas including our Holy Smoke, Oh Honey!, Wild Child and White Peony.
Grown on their 13 acres of land, the family’s tea is considered to be the highest grade from the area, and is grown without chemicals.
The family’s head teamaster guides the younger generations through the teamaking process, oversees every batch produced, and even hand crafts the most difficult-to-make teas himself. The teas are plucked meticulously and traditional methods are used to maintain quality standards.
